Goku is one of the only Saiyans left. A saiyan appears to look just like a human (with the exception of the tail). Saiyans are people that destroy/sell planets to people. Goku (at first) thinks Saiyans are evil and refuses to believe he is one. Most people would say he is the most powerful person in the universe.

At the start of Dragon Ball Z Raditz, Goku's older brother, comes to earth to remind Goku of his mission: To destroy earth. Goku refuses a fight begins. Raditz wins, takes his son, Gohan, and informs him that if he does not join the three remaining Saiyans he will never see his son again! He joins forces with the Namekian, Piccolo, to defeat Raditz. He holds Raditz so Piccolo can use his special beam cannon to kill them both! But the terrible thing is who will fight the two Saiyans who plan to destroy Earth in one years time?!
When Goku is in Other World he trains with King Kai.
Then his friends wish him back to life with the Dragon Balls just in time for him to help in the battle against the two Saiyans.But the problem is Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien and Chiaotzu are all dead thanks to a bald Saiyan named Nappa. Goku defeats Nappa thanks to his training with King Kai. But Vegeta is far stronger than Goku
